An Open Letter from a Female Director

Screenwriter/director Ela Thier has written an open letter requesting funds to make her latest film.

I love this letter.  There are some very ugly facts about being female in the film industry, but it doesn't sound like a complaint.  She knows it's going to be hard, so she's willing to work the harder for it.

For various reasons right now, it would be personally meaningful for me if this woman's movie were made.  I don't have $100, but I have $5.

I'm boggled for a different reason-- Hollywood being an "Old Boys' Network" doesn't really surprise me, as it's based on names and since the names are all male now, it's gotta be tough to get in the door when you're not. I'm boggled because apparently this woman _writes screenplays_. Like movies. Which do not appear to be "Some Other Movie From The 1980s Retooled With Today's Actors." Which do not appear to be "We Don't Need A Screenwriter, We've Got Seventeen A-List Actors So You Have To Come See It" films.

From the sounds of it, she wants to make Real Movies. With Real Stories.

She's so screwed. (But I still hope she wins!)
