Grocery mysteries

Well, this is going to sound random as all get-out.

Two items that I buy regularly have recently disappeared from my supermarket shelves, and I am mystified.

One of them is King Oscars sardines in dijon mustard.  The store has every kind but that one.  Can't find these online, either.

The other is Kashi granola cereal in Cocoa Beach flavor.  They have all the other flavors.  (This, at least, can be purchased online, but I probably shouldn't even though it's AWESOME.)

I don't particularly need either of them, but I'm always a little baffled when something disappears like that, never to return.  Does Publix have flavor bias?

actually, yes. usually this happens when things are not moving as quickly as the other flavors or they want to remove something to make space for something else. often talking to / writing a letter to the store manager to mention you want said item can make a difference (seriously! and you can do it to get them to carry things they don't currently carry, too -- but easier with stuff they used to carry). At the very least, they should be able to find out whether the item is no longer made or unavailable now (for some other reason) or they decided to stop carrying it because it wasn't selling well enough.

I noticed my (chain) stores rotate the Kashi cereals a LOT, which makes me angry when I can't get my Puffs!

I have found that sometimes Publix is a bit lax with their ordering, and can sometimes go a month before restocking something. The recent culprits that I use are the Bleu Cheese Sargento Salad Finishers, which tend to sell out quickly and but aren't restocked very quickly, and, strangely enough... lemon juice of all things. What the heck, Publix!

interestingly, the different Publix stores in town all have different inventories. Especially in different flavors. I have to check the Midland side store for something we can no longer find at the others, so I'll see what they have. Assuming I remember what it was you were wanting.

Wacky! Grocery stores.

Where I live the stock varies a lot by whether the neighborhood has a big Hispanic population or not. I eat a lot of those foods often, so do I avoid the white people supermarkets? Yes indeedy, at least until I have to go to Whole Paycheck 15 miles away for the specialty stuff.

Man, I'm still peeved that Pop Secret's 100 calorie kettle corn disappeared. And I think it was not the grocery store I found it at's fault but Pop Secret's. I know I've found two other brands that also have a 100 calorie kettle corn but they just aren't as good (I've also decided Pop Secret > Orville Redenbacher).

Too bad for the grocery store I got it from. It was the main reason I even went to that grocery store anymore. Now I have no reason to go there.

I get sad every year when the little satsuma oranges disappear when the season is done. That's my grocery sadness.

That happens a lot here, too. I've known quite a few items that lost one particular flavour and kept all of the others. I understand why they do it, but it still sucks! I hate it when they discontinue something that I buy regularly :(
