Here's the deal: I had leftover apple pie ingredients from last week's pie, and leftover topping from both pies, so I just combined the two and ended up with a mass of spicy apple sludge. And these days it seems like I never have fewer than a cup and a half of random berries in the fridge, gamely turning into wee mummified fruityheads.
So I added my remaining apple to the apple sludge and put some even more interesting spices in it, and plopped the stuff into a cheap pie crust. And I placed the berries VERY nicely into the other pie crust (it's way cute) and then drenched them in a buttery vanilla-y sugary cream sauce.
They both smell AWESOME. I'll post pr0n pics of them later and let you guys know if I die in the tasting. Preliminary names: buttery berry tart and apple dingbat tart. Maybe someday I'll actually graduate to making formal tarts out of them.
